This article, and many of the comments here, commits a central mistake: declaring things to be true with no evidence. "Users love settings." Umm, prove it. Even more glaring, the author goes on to use his own anecdotal story to make his point. If there's one thing I've learned in decades in software development (and there's not), it's that my opinion is not a satisfactory proxy for "what everyone thinks/does."
